Desert Thunderstorms

So we finally got a decent thunderstorm last night.

We've had several predictions for thunderstorms in the last few weeks... but none that actually managed to push over the mountains and into the valley.

Last nights was a big one.

Sitting there watching it I realized two things.
  1. I love thunderstorms. It's like mother nature washing all the dust and heat away. There was actually enough rain to hear it as it hit the roof. There's nothing better. (sidenote... it's Las Vegas... with the never-ending hum of air conditioning units - it's rare that we are actually able to hear the rain hit the roof. It's really got to be pouring!)

  2. My son does not love thunderstorms. He was scared shitless. These are the problems with being raised in an environment in which you only see 3" of rain annually. He doesn't enjoy it in any way. Add to that the fact that he's a little oversensitive to sound already and we had a recipe for disaster. (My solution??? Just offer to let him watch School of Rock with Jack Black at bedtime with the volume up extra loud.)

Anything Jack Black = Thunderstorms Forgotten.
